You are on the right point, John. In my environmental law lecture a couple of weeks ago, my professor remarked that the health of a country's democracy is directly related to the ability of its citizens to participate in environmental discussions. Removing the rights of citizens to participate in the planning process is unfortunate, and hopefully not the start of a slippery slope.

Congratulations John, you're ahead of 99% of the politicians involved in the GO Transit and ARL expansion, in that you recognize the scope of these projects and you understand the short comings of the proposals.

It's amazing that in 2009 were seriously considering (or pushing, in the case of the Ontario Government) diesel locomotives. Not just a couple of diesel locomotives mind you, but 464 plus stinky diesel locomotives traveling through an urban setting. Insane doesn't do the project justice.

There was a shot in the media on Saturday of a little boy with a home made sign that said "Diesel Trains Are Dinosaurs" along with some of his art showing diesel dinosaurs. If an 8 year old gets the concept, why doesn't Mr. McGuinty and Metrolinx?

Bless you! Not just for recognizing our issue and fight and then connecting it to all the other 'NIMBY' fights, but mostly because you got off your ass, joined us and then wrote about it! If only reporters and other media types would do same instead of parking themselves in one location for 10 minutes.

What happens in one community, or 10, will happen everywhere when government officials who claim to represent us, are more inclined to just tow the 'party line' and say nothing. You get what you pay for and if people don't begin to take better notice of who is supposed to be watching the store, there won't be anything left. And you cannot complain if you don't engage, you don't vote, and you don't read.
