Toronto Island Boat Ride Pictures

It was a beautiful day today in Toronto. This evening I went over to the Toronto Island for a Sunday night boat ride in between the various islands that make up ‘the Island’. Most of the pictures I took were taken in Long Pond and the Hanlan’s Point channel between about 8PM and 8:30PM. Most are of the skyline – a simply amazing view from the water.

This is what I look like taking pictures on my cellphone as I drive.

Careful John, the McGuinty government has made driving and using a cell phone an offense.

A fair point. Because I don’t have a driver’s license there is no real enforceability of tickets I could potentially receive. Plus – it’s a boat.

Nostalgic. My family home was on Hanlan’s Point, directly opposite the winter tug dock, 1944-50, on the lagoon going towards the filtration plant. Your views, fifth or sixth from the end were taken just off shore from our former home. (city view from Hanlan’s channel). What a sad day when our parents were told they could no longer rent the land and had to leave. We had a beautiful, and fairly new Spanish bungalow at 24 Hiawatha Avenue. So many people were set adrift from their homes which they had lived in for years. We were year-round Island folk…true Islanders, living on the more established Islands, Hanlan’s Point and Centre Island. The Wards and Algonquin residents were striclty summer hangers-on. And now…..! They are still hanging!!! I have a photo, about the same as yours, minus the CN tower…only the Royal York (and the old Bank of Commerce in the distance). Makes me sad.
